With over two decades in broadcasting and journalism, Hassan Abdillahi has amplified stories that connect the Somali diaspora to the world.

Hassan Abdillahi “Karate”

Hassan Abdillahi Omar, widely known as “Karate,” is a Somali-born journalist, broadcaster, and community voice recognized for his long-standing contributions to diaspora media and civic engagement. Based in Toronto, Canada, he is closely associated with Ogaal Radio, a Somali diaspora media platform that has served as a trusted source of information, dialogue, and cultural connection for Somali communities abroad.

Across public events, media coverage, and archival records, Hassan has been consistently described as an on-air anchor, director, keynote speaker, and master of ceremonies at major community gatherings. His work has played a visible role in amplifying Somali voices, strengthening civic awareness, and fostering unity within the global Somali diaspora.

His contributions to ethnic and community media in Canada have received formal recognition, including a National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) Media Award presented at Seneca College.
